As a Realtor, you’re used to helping people through major life events. But when it comes to facing a cancer diagnosis, of Triple Negative Breast Cancer (the most aggressive forms) the tables are turned. In this blog, I’ll share my cancer journey while balancing my real estate career.
When I was first diagnosed with TNBC, March 1, 2022. I felt overwhelmed and scared. But as someone who is used to guiding others through stressful times, I knew I had to stay positive and focused. I took some time off from work to undergo treatment and get my bearings, but soon I was back to work, using my real estate career as a way to channel my energy into something positive.
I quickly realized that being a Realtor actually helped me cope with my cancer journey in a number of ways. For one thing, my job kept me busy and distracted from my concerns. As I helped my clients navigate the ups and downs of buying or selling a home, I found that I was able to stay focused on their needs and take my mind off my own situation.
At the same time, being a Realtor gave me a sense of purpose and meaning that was incredibly important to me during my cancer journey. When you’re going through treatment, it’s easy to feel like your life is on hold. But by continuing to work and help people achieve their real estate goals, I felt like I was making a difference and contributing to something bigger than myself.
Of course, there were challenges along the way. There were days when I felt tired, weak, or sick, and had to take a step back from work. There were also times when I struggled to balance my real estate career with the demands of treatment, appointments, and self-care. But through it all, I found that my real estate community was incredibly supportive and understanding.
Now that I’m in remission, I look back on my cancer journey with a sense of gratitude for the role that my real estate career played in helping me cope. It’s not always easy to balance work and personal challenges, but for me, being a Realtor was a source of strength and inspiration during a difficult time. If you’re facing a cancer diagnosis or another health challenge while working as a Realtor, know that you’re not alone. There are resources and support available to help you navigate this journey and come out the other side stronger than ever.
